The<br \/>\ntransaction is expected to close in the first half of 2016 pending approval by regulatory<br \/>\nauthorities.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNomura is honored to enter into a long-term relationship with American Century \u2013 a proven and<br \/>\nsuccessful investment management company, and an organization which has stated its<br \/>\ncommitment to making a difference in the community through its Profits With a Purpose<br \/>\nphilosophy,\u201d<\/em> said Koji Nagai, Nomura Group CEO. <em>\u201cNomura\u2019s relationship with American<br \/>\nCentury will bring value to both firms and the deal represents Nomura\u2019s continuing ambition to<br \/>\nput clients at the center of everything it does while connecting markets east and west,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNomura respects the value of American Century\u2019s corporate philosophy and we believe that we<br \/>\nare entering into a relationship with an outstanding company on the strength of our similar<br \/>\ncultures, a shared investment outlook and a common set of values,\u201d<\/em> said Kunio Watanabe, CEO of Nomura Asset Management. <\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe strength of Nomura\u2019s asset management business in Asia complements American<br \/>\nCentury\u2019s own success in North America,\u201d<\/em> said Jonathan Thomas, American Century President<br \/>\nand Chief Executive Officer.<em> \u201cBy leveraging our new relationship with Nomura, we\u2019ll be able to<br \/>\nbuild upon the success of our global business and broaden the array of clients who can access<br \/>\nour investment management capabilities,\u201d<\/em> said Thomas. <em>\u201cAs we welcome Nomura as a strategic<br \/>\ninvestor, I want to thank CIBC for what proved to be a mutually beneficial relationship over the<br \/>\npast four years. Going forward, CIBC remains one of our largest and most-valued clients.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The deal is intended to allow Nomura to access and leverage American Century\u2019s asset<br \/>\nmanagement capabilities to develop investment solutions for its retail and institutional clients<br \/>\ninternationally. It also helps the firm further diversify its business interests, giving Nomura an<br \/>\nexpanded investment footprint in the U.S. investment management market.<\/p>\n<p>For American Century, the transaction provides the Kansas City-based firm with a strategic<br \/>\ninvestor whose prominence in Japan, Asia and other parts of world is intended to help support<br \/>\nits growth initiative to broaden non-U.S. distribution of the firm\u2019s products and services. Beyond<br \/>\nthe minority investment, Nomura and American Century Investments have agreed to<br \/>\nstrategically explore ways to enhance their asset management businesses globally.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of the transaction, Nomura will name two representatives to American<br \/>\nCentury\u2019s 11-person board of directors.
