{"id":81175,"date":"2019-07-11T01:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T23:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beta.next-finance.net\/note\/european-alternatives-industry-hits-e1-62-trillion-in-assets\/"},"modified":"2019-07-11T01:55:00","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T23:55:00","slug":"european-alternatives-industry-hits-e1-62-trillion-in-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beta.next-finance.net\/en\/note\/european-alternatives-industry-hits-e1-62-trillion-in-assets\/","title":{"rendered":"European Alternatives Industry Hits \u20ac1.62 Trillion in Assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The report finds that although the macroeconomic picture for Europe has been muted in the past 24 months, the<br \/>\nalternatives industry in the region is moving from strength to strength. 2018 has seen record activity across most<br \/>\nalternative asset classes, with Europe-based alternative asset fund managers holding \u20ac1.62tn in AUM as of the end of<br \/>\nJune 2018 \u2013 up almost \u20ac300bn in just three years.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunities present in Europe are apparent to investors globally \u2013 almost half of the institutions with a<br \/>\npreference for the region are now based in North America, with significant proportions coming from the Middle East<br \/>\nand Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Hedge funds remain the largest part of the European alternatives market (\u20ac608bn), but across the industry, AUM has<br \/>\ndeclined in the past 12 months, leaving private equity poised to overtake as the largest asset class in the region<br \/>\n(\u20ac559bn). 2018 marked a record year for private capital deal making, with transactions surpassing \u20ac374bn, while the<br \/>\nrecord rate of fundraising seen in 2017 showed no signs of slowing.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cEurope\u2019s alternative assets industry is in rude health, with assets under management surging even as the wider<br \/>\nfinancial picture remains cool,\u201d<\/em> said Mark O\u2019Hare, Chief Executive of Preqin. <em>\u201cMoreover, it is extremely diverse both in<br \/>\nterms of asset class and the different regions and countries across the continent. With more than 6,300 fund<br \/>\nmanagers and 3,000 investors active in Europe, it is more important than ever to shed light on the incredible array of<br \/>\nopportunities present throughout the region. Private<br \/>\nequity, meanwhile, has grown by 8% in the first half of 2018 to reach \u20ac559bn.<\/li>\n<li> 2018 saw record deal values for private equity buyout, venture capital and infrastructure transactions in Europe.<br \/>\nAs a result, total private capital deals reached a record \u20ac375bn.<\/li>\n<li> There are 6,300 fund managers and 3,000 investors based in Europe that are active in alternative assets in<br \/>\n2019.<\/li>\n<li> 3,900 investors now target private equity investments in Europe.
