EV registrations have also proved to be the silver lining in the UK new car market, which is currently at its lowest level since 2013, according to recent figures by the SMMT.<\/p>\n
However, a shortage of financing options for consumers and businesses could restrict the market\u2019s growth and negatively impact the UK\u2019s ability to meet carbon emission targets, according to London-based lawyers Shoosmiths.<\/p>\n
GlabalData\u2019s motor finance reporter Athena Chrysanthou says: \u201cIn a legal briefing, lawyers from the London-based firm said that financing packages on offer from \u2018captive\u2019 (or manufacturer-owned) and \u2018non-captive\u2019 finance providers have largely \u201cfailed to adapt to the distinctive characteristics of EVs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThe report, entitled \u2018Financing for electric vehicles\u2019, explained that traditionally, finance providers designed and built their IT systems to support straightforward products which have worked for diesel and petrol cars, as they are bought and sold as a single asset.<\/em><\/p>\n However, Shoosmiths said: \u201cEVs are not so simple.
